| Liza Morozova."Liza and the Dead ESCAPE Gallery, International Fair "Art Manege". It was the first piece of nonspectacular (invisible) art on the Moscow art scene. First it was exhibited in the ESCAPE Gallery, and then at the "Art Manege" fair. The installation included a series of "portraits" of great people, whom the members of the project consider to be "the patriarchs of performance". The installation represented the room of an artist Liza Marozova, where among other possessions were the signs that reminded of that characters of the past: "Chapaevskiy's" bread sticks, a cup with a portrait of Leo Tolstoy, a business card of "Caligula" department store and a "Casanova" stationery bike. This way of exhibiting the "portraits" of the great performers of the past was chosen for the reason that their images, according to the members of the project, have so deeply sunk into mass culture and gained new meanings, that it's impossible to extract them back. During the whole period of exposition Liza Morozova lived in the installation, permanently typing up on the computer the names of the "dead" characters mixed up with the names of exhibition's visitors.

| Another work we want to mention is an intervention at the press conference of Manifesta 3 in Ljubljana. We came to this new European Biennial with leaflets and spray cans. When the press conference started we kind of occupied the panel, sprayed a slogan on the huge screen, made noise and handed out leaflets. The slogan was: “Demolish neo-liberalist multicultural art system now!” Bodyguards came and dragged us out of the hall. Three hours later we were arrested by Slovenian secret police in the streets. | 1st April, 2000, Institute of Culturology, Bersenevskaya Nabereznaya, Moscow.]

“Do Not Believe Your Eyes” was a scene of the movie “Oil on Canvas”, on which Mavromatti was working at this time as director and actor. This action is dedicated to the idea of pain as an obligatory part the artistic catharsis and the art of the artist. At the same time it was a political statement against the union of religion and the state power (a phenomena in Russia in the 90’s, after the change of the political system), which underestimates the faith itself as a basic right of the human being and becomes obligatory serve of the state interests. "This action was also against the ideological pressure of the newly-powered religious institutions on the freedom of speech and artistic expression. ( >>>>> ) | |

| The work, along with Pigeonhouse, is actually part of a broader project named Zoophrenia and concerning the theme of 'Animal as human being's alter-ego', or, 'Animal as the anthropomorphic Alien'. The project is devoted to contacts of man-of-culture with other natural species treated as equal-rank beings. | |

| Elena Kovylina. Green Apples. Arsakan village, Armenia 20.07.1999 In the spring of 1999 I was invited to Erevan, the capital of Armenia, to take part in one exhibition. After having acquainted with neighbourhoods and enviroments I was most surprised at the women’s lifestyle. Women who live in armenian villages never sit down at the table together with men, never with the guests, they only serve everybody and spend their time in a kitchen. We visited several houses of popular armenian people and everywhere I saw the same.

| Zwerev’s center of contemporary art, Moscow 01.01.1999 within the exhibition “Saljut attrakcion”, curated by K. Zvezdochetov I’m applying myself to the problem of choosing within the life of a woman-artist. On this matter there’s a lot of feminist literature, for a while it has become an imporant problem of my own life. I’m standing on a stool with a loop around my neck. On my breast I have a sign with instructions for the audience: you can see on it a leg kicking my stool. The duration of this performance is two hours.
